Apprenticeships & Traineeships

What is an Apprenticeship?

Australian Apprenticeships are a great career option and give you a nationally recognised qualification. They are now available in over 500 occupations, covering just about every field of employment you can think of.

Australian Apprenticeships combine structured training with practical 'hands on' learning experience. The training can be done on-the-job, off-the-job, or a combination of both and is provided by your employer and/or a TAFE Institute or other training provider.

Your wage will depend on several factors - the year you left school, your experience (time) since completion of schooling and the skill level you have achieved.

Traditionally apprenticeships took three to four years to complete. Australian Apprenticeships are 'competency based', meaning that it may be possible for you to complete your training more quickly, if you reach the required skill level.

Key Differences Between Apprenticeships & Traineeships?

A traineeship is similar to an apprenticeship, it usually lasts 1 or 2 years and is only available once you leave school. Australian Apprenticeships are open to anyone who is 15 years or older.
