Getting connected

Telephone

Telstra and Optus are the only residential services in Australia – you will need to contact Telstra first to connect, before switching to Optus, if you wish.

Contact Telstra a few days before moving in to your new home to arrange for a residential phone service to be connected. If you are moving into a flat or house with an existing line, or if you have a separate line in your room, arrange for the line to be reconnected.

Check with the following services for the best deals on local, STD (outside your local area) and ISD (international) calls that suit your telephone usage pattern:

Approximate connection expenses:

  • Reconnecting a previously connected line $59.00
  • New connection $299.00
  • Telephone handset rental per month $3.00 (or you can buy your own)
  • Line rental per month $26.95
  • Local Calls $0.20
  • STD and ISD calls will vary
